Sociology
Lori Caulkins
Semester Class
Requirements:
There is no text book per say for this class. This is a “bring your own device” class. Most of the information will be handed out/viewed during class or delivered to class through this site. Please do not plan on using your phone as your device. It will be too cumbersome for what we will be doing in class.
Grading:
Video Notes Chapter Tests
Chapter Guided Notes Complete Class Participation Activities and Discussions
Vocabulary Terms Completed Film Reactions/Papers
Vocabulary Tests Other Writing Assignments
Chapter Projects Other assignments as determined
Homework and Late Policy:
Homework is due at the beginning of class. This class will be given ONE homework pass to use in case of technical difficulty with computers. Do not use this pass lightly. If I can determine a major failure with technology in general, it will be up to my discretion to postpone homework.
DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING UNTIL YOU TALK TO ME.
If homework is not done at the beginning of class, it will lose 10% the first two days it is late. After that (which would be the next class), it will receive 50% at the beginning of class. After the next scheduled class has started, if homework is still not complete it will receive a ZERO! Please stay on top of the assignments!
This is a unique class since I have pushed all content out electronically, so I plan to offer patience to students and ask the same of them.
Parent Information:
Please read the information above and what follows. Since Sociology covers a broad range of topics including the influences of race, family upbringing and socioeconomic status, there may be times when topics discussed will contain material more adult like in nature. An example of this may be when discussing counter culture and what it means to live outside the accepted norms of society. I have tried very hard to keep most of the material at an equivalent of a PG-13 movie, but at times the information may progress a little past that. At all times, I will address accepted discussion protocol with students so the academic environment maintains a high standard. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
This class will not be given a printed text book, so all materials will be accessible through this site. With that in mind, I am sure there will be bumps in the road. If there are concerns or problems, please let me know so we can discuss this situation. I think this will be an exciting and educational class and I am thrilled to be teaching it.
I have read the syllabus completely and am aware of the technology needed for this class and the possible content that will be covered.
